Authorities will scale back sugar imports

Minister of Agriculture reviewed sugar cane planting in Merauke Regency as a national strategic project to reduce the significant import burden.

This project is a permanent solution in improving the welfare of farmers. Because in the future Indonesia will not need to depend on import policies.

Apart from that, domestic production will increase as more factories are established in a number of regions.

Currently the government is working on 20 thousand hectares of rice fields out of the total target of 500 thousand hectares. This target will be achieved in the near future considering that the Plantation Index (IP) in Merauke averages 2 times a season and can be increased to 3 times a season.
